Applications of Copper Slides in Metal Rolling Mills
The primary applications of copper slides in metal rolling mills include:
- Universal Joint Shafts: These are widely used in thick plate mills. The copper slide is mounted on the lower part of the bearing housing, forming a static friction interface with the track. This configuration is suitable for mills with relatively light work rolls.
- Automatic Lubrication Systems: These are integrated into the universal joint shafts of medium plate mills to enhance their reliability and longevity.
- Comparison with Roller Bearings: In medium and thick plate mills, the lower work roll bearing housing can contact the roll changing track in two ways: through copper slides or roller bearings. Bronze slides, offering greater friction, are suitable for lighter work rolls, while roller bearings, with less friction, are used for heavier rolls. Though bronze wear plate slides have a longer lifespan, they are more challenging to replace.
Material Selection for Self-Lubricating Slides
1. High Polymer Self-Lubricating Materials: These materials offer low friction and wear due to their inherent lubricating properties. They work effectively under high temperature, high load, and extreme environmental conditions, making them suitable for various mechanical components, including slides and guide rods.
2. Solid Inlaid Self-Lubricating Materials: These materials embed low-friction solid lubricants like graphite, molybdenum disulfide, tungsten disulfide, and synthetic resins into the base material. They help reduce friction and prevent surface damage under high stress.
3. Copper Slides: Widely used in large mill universal joint shafts due to their excellent self-lubricating properties. They withstand high pressure, friction, and impact loads, resisting dust, iron scale, moisture, and high temperatures.
4. High-Strength Brass (SPF): This material integrates solid lubricants such as artificial graphite and PTFE into the brass matrix. These self-lubricating bearings are ideal for oil-free, high-temperature, high-load, low-speed, and corrosion-resistant conditions, with a temperature range of -40°C to +300°C.
